James Kalm ventures forth sans bike, and stops in at the Van Der Plas Gallery to indulge in some paint-head yakking with Debra Drexler, and get the artist to walk viewers through her exhibition “Earth to Sky”. With a back history in “Identity Art” and “Post-Colonial conceptualism” Drexler has for more that a decade been investigating issues more closely involved with hardcore abstract painting. “Earth to Sky” is a selection of gestural abstract paintings composed with sweeping strokes of brilliant pigments, pools, puddles, and rivulets of resin and varnish. This program was recorded March 30, 2017.
