James
Kalm is out and about in Chelsea on a Thursday evening looking for a
dose of acculturation, when he notices a crowd in front of the Andrew
Kreps Gallery. He ducks in and discovers
Supercallefragelistic-Expialledocious! Ricci Albenda has been working
out a system of color and letters for nearly two decades. This group of
acrylic paintings presents her latest investigations of typeface,
color, text and semantic codes. Using a very hard-edge method of
painting, these pictures ply the grounds between graphic design, word
games and Situationist interventions in advertising. Allan Craft
provides a musical introduction, and was recorded in the Union Square
subway station.
