James Kalm is making his weekend tour of New York’s most active art neighborhoods when he is attracted to an exhibition of masterful painting, drawing and printmaking by Sedrick Huckaby titled “The 99%”. This Lower East Side exhibition features a massive selection of over 100 lithographs by Huckaby in which he renders figure studies of his neighbors and acquaintances from his Fort Worth home town. Also presented are several very sensitive portraits in oil, and a pair of works that feature the artist’s sculpture/paintings with heavy impastoed brushwork.
Pedaling on to Brooklyn’s Bushwick, viewers are invited to visit “Every Force Evolves a Form” at Present Co. Gallery for a show featuring works by two sisters Lisa and Janelle Inglesias. This team of siblings fashion sculpture and wall pieces from everyday objects like; TV trays, garden hoses, lawn furniture and baby blankets. They even recruit their mother, Bodhild Inglesias, to provide knit versions of their small paintings which are placed along side for aesthetic contextual comparisons. This program was recorded March 26, 2017.
