James Kalm was on the Bowery recently, and heard the melodic tones of a refutation of Minimalism (?) After entering the gallery, and spending several minutes at On Stellar Rays, observing the performance of Kate Gilmore’s “BEAT” (three red clad performers kicking and stomping large red sheet metal cubes) his ears were ringing (still are). Perhaps he should pursue a settlement for hearing damage? To ameliorate the audio clang, your correspondent takes viewers for a sliding tour of the mostly works on paper of Karen Heagle. This body of work features beasts feasting on carrion. The pieces use rich water based media and gold leaf.

On to Bushwick, we pop into Present Co. for a stroll through “Meridian Atlas”, featuring brass spatial constructs with added found elements by Claudia Peña Salinas, and intimate scaled oil paintings that reference landscape by Lumin Wakoa.
