William N Copley Women at PAUL KASMIN GALLERY and Katherine Bradford at SPERONE WESTWATER

James Kalm’s modus operendi is to work in the studio till the last possible moment, then scurry out to visit openings or shows just before closing time. In both these cases James Kalm overstays his welcome and has to shut down when the doors are locked and galleries turn the “lights out”. William N. Copley holds a unique position in post war American painting. Evolving a simplified
almost cartoon-like figuration, he also combines elements of Pop Art with paint handling that is coloristically rich and varied. Karherine Bradford provided viewers with a walking tour of her last show at CANADA Gallery. This brief walk through at Sperone Westwater is truncated by closing time, but viewers still get a “close reading” glimpse of a pair of this latest group of paintings by this highly regarded painter. A musical introduction is provided by Mia Mhoor @mia_mhoor. This program was recorded January 14, 2017 and January 26, 2017.
