Kalm is a soft touch. So when he bumped into Elana Herzog at a recent
opening on the Lower East Side, and she informed him of a two person
show that included a major recent work, your correspondent made the ride
to Northern Williamsburg to check out the display. Impressed with the
works of both artists, Kalm whipped out his camera, and provides viewers
with brief glances of these installation pieces. Linda Herritt's
"Terra Infirma" is a text work employing fabric, tape, yarn and plastic
which covers a 16 x 50 foot section of wall. The names of bands are
spelled out over a wire grid modeling of a section of the Rocky
Mountains. Elana Herzog's "Valence" combines her signature method of
stapled fabric to boards mounted on metal struts. This structure is
shadowed with a wall mounted white sheetrock form, evoking comparisons
of volume and substance.
