Stephen Mueller ORCHIDACEOUS at HUNTER COLLEGE ART GALLERIES

James Kalm scoots to the West Side and drops in to the Hunter College Art Galleries to bring viewers along for a walking tour of “Stephen Mueller: Orchidaceous”, the most comprehensive survey of the late artist’s works. Mueller (1947 – 20011) was one of a loose group of painters who went against the grain of conceptualism and minimalism to maintain their commitment to abstract painting. This retrospective focuses on a period when the artist develops his unique vision, and produces a body of painting that remains singular and influential. Curator Carrie Moyer gives a brief interview, and appreciation of Mueller’s project, and his mastery of acrylic painting techniques. This program was recorded Sept. 13, 2018
