Jane Fine Love, American Style at PIEROGI

James Kalm is on Manhattan’s Suffolk Street, and steps into Pierogi Gallery to cajole Jane Fine into giving viewers an intimate discussion, and walking tour of her exhibition, “Love, American Style”. Beginning two years ago, with the election of Donald Trump, Fine has been proceeding with a mission of figuring out how to keep working in her studio without getting bogged down in the anxiety of contemporary politics. Using a mixture of material and technical means, the artist presents painterly pours and spills, played off slippery gestural drawings that combine images, symbols and insignia with references to recent disquieting events. Fine also comments on the influences and connections to her practice of the painters Philip Guston, and Leon Golub. This program was recorded Sept. 23, 2018.
