Brancusi & Duchamp The Art of Dialogue at KASMIN

James Kalm is fortunate to stop in for the last fifteen minutes of the opening of “The Art of Dialogue”. This historic exhibition pairs two of the twentieth century’s most inimitable and innovative artists within a relationship of discourse in: painting, sculpture, film, photography, drawing, and multiples. Both these iconic artists came of age in the crucible of the Parisian avant-garde in the early twentieth century and shared aspects of a transgressive aesthetic nature. Duchamp was also a champion and an unofficial representative of Brancusi’s work, and placed important pieces with major collectors and institutions in the United States. Many of America’s most significant contemporary art movements such as Conceptualism, Pop, and Minimalism, have their roots in the portentous ideas of these two masters.
