James Kalm catches Suzanne Joelson just before closing time on the final day of her exhibition “Slipping Systems”. Suzanne gives viewers a walking tour of her show and discusses he use of multi-panels, collaged digital prints and other materials to achieve her slipped systems. Then it’s on to New Paintings by Christoph Ruckhäberle at Zierhersmith. Ruckhäberle burst on the New York scene about fifteen years ago as a major force in the New Leipzig School movement. With this body of work, the artist presents a series of small to medium sized reclining female nude paintings (all titled Netsuke) that riff on modernist renditions of this classic motif. These paintings use the slick surface of enamel paint and evidence the extensive use of cut masking tape, pattern, and high keyed hues. This program was recorded November 6, and November 10, 2016, in Bushwick and Chelsea respectively.
