Then and Now Beautiful Losers, Alleged Gallery…at THE HOLE

James Kalm is back on his bike and dragging viewers to the Bowery for an early debut of the 2018/19 art season. “Then and Now Beautiful Losers, Alleged Gallery & The 90’s Lower East Side” is curated by Aaron Rose, who was the proprietor of the Alleged Gallery from 1992-2001. To celebrate the ten year anniversary of the release of the poignant documentary film “Beautiful Losers”, this exhibition features over 25 artists who serendipitously came together to form a community of young DIY artists, skate Kids, Street artists and grass roots provocateurs. As a harbinger of the current Street Art/outsider movements, these artists were influenced by Rock-n-Roll posters, hobo art, and ubiquitous commercial signage. Some of the artists included are: Steven Powers, Andre Razo, Margaret Kilgallen, Chris Johansen, Tom Sachs, Ivory Serra, Ed Templeton, Sheperd Fairey, Johanna Jackson, Barry McGee and others. This program was recorded August 23-24, 2018, on the Bowery in New York City.
