James Kalm has a self appointed mission to bring his viewers reports on the arts (particularly painting) in the most vibrant and cutting edge neighborhoods of New York. To that end, your correspondent tries to get out to Bushwick Brooklyn at least once a month. While headed to the galleries we’ll slide by a Caribbean musical festival and get a hint of the dynamic nature of this lively area. Harold Ancart New Works is a selection of ambitiously large painting featuring stark landscapes. While caring on the legacy of the romantic landscape, these pictures also contain bold abstract elements that have a lingering resonance of Abstract Expressionism, and the more current manifestation of Neo-Expressionism.
