PRANKE // Berlin math-rock-pop
Pranke was formed in the summer of 2014 by Icelandic guitarist Daniel Bödvarsson and German drummer Max Andrzejewski. Both are prominent on the young Berlin jazz/improvised music scene. The flatmates’ listening sessions led them to the rehearsal room, jamming odd-time based riffs and exploring the reduced setting of guitar and drums. Elements from jazz and pop eventually found their way into the music, with the addition of vocals and a synthesizer pushing them into a new territory. Think Hella, with a fair amount of songwriting, shreds and drones a la the Dirty Projectors, The Thing and Can. The unexpected twists and turns, huge dynamics and juggling of grittiness and sensitivity has an urban vibe and reflects Max and Daniel’s search for a way of living in the city.
