Kristen Jensen, Ben Dowell bei GEARY und Keltie Ferris bei MITCHELL INNES & NASHMilton Resnick bei CHEIM & READ und MIGUEL ABREU GALLERY

James Kalm arrived on the New York art scene in 1979, and he’d always thought of Milton Resnick as the “paint-head’s paint-head”, slathering on oil paint with the existential abandon of a saint. Like Ad Reinhardt, Resnick made a philosophical choice to deny the image, even the subconscious one. This double feature brings viewers a strolling tour of “Boards” a selection of 40 x 30 inch corrugated cardboard panels that the artists used to peruse a more spontaneous investigation into color, surface and texture that avoided the massive scale of many of his previous paintings. In the second part of this program we visit “Apparitions, Reapparitions” at Miguel Abreu Gallery. These “late works” (all on paper, using water based mediums like gauche, acrylic and water color) are a revelation, and reveal Resnick’s gifts as a draftsman, colorist, and show his links with the long tradition of figurative painting. We also catch the last ten minutes of a conversation between Geoffrey Dorfman and Jenny Jaskey discussing the show and answering questions from the audience. A musical introduction is provided by The N.Y.U. Mixtapes a’cappella group. This program was recorded on March 24, and April 8, 2018. The Mixtapes: http://themixtapes.wixsite.com/about/...
