James
Kalm pops into the Berry Campbell Gallery to take in a viewing of the
paintings of Dan Christensen. Dan Christensen (1942-2007) was in the
forefront of Lyrical Abstraction, the oft maligned movement occurring in
the early 1970s that saw itself as a resistant form of art that sought
to reestablish painting as intellectually valid, and counter the
hegemonic dominance of Minimalism. Christensen is admired within the
New York painting community for his fearless experimentation, bold
gesture, and poignant color sense. This exhibition features works
ranging from the mid 1960s to the mid 2000s. The Gallery tour was
recorded on September 17, 2015. A musical introduction is provided by
Frank Picarazzi, and was recorded live at Union Square.
