James
Kalm if frequently asked how he decides to cover a particular art
event. Not to reveal professional secrets but…sometimes, your
correspondent simply jumps on his bike, and pedals around until
something strikes his fancy. Last Sunday afternoon, while wondering the
Lower East Side, a pair of performance artists in a store window
attracted attention. Catching the tail end of Donna Huanca's exhibition
"Echo Implant," your reporter slips into the gallery and views the
combine works featuring fabrics, silicone, garments and paint. This
work straddles the edge of painting, sculpture and fashion, bringing an
enhanced awareness of how viewers relate to the female form, it's
accoutrements and their cultural and abstract formal elements.
