This is the artist's first
exhibition with the gallery and Kearns' first New York showing in eight
years. Kearns melds classic Pop Art references with tightly rendered
depictions of Jesus, wildlife and botany images, which appear cribbed
from elementary school primers. A mischievous intent is revealed by
the Surrealistic disassociated placement of elements, and bold blasts
of cartoon text, which guide the eye around the composition like shoves
from an anxious teenager. "Cowboy Christ" a character that appears
repeatedly, seems a
dialectical commingling of the "compassionate" and the "heroic".
