Chris Burden burst onto the
international art scene in the early 1970s with a series of outlandish
performances that pushed the boundaries of endurance, pain tolerance,
legality and altered the course of American art. With "Extreme
Measures" the artist marks the return after a nearly twenty year absence
from the New York art scene. One of Burden's most iconic pieces, "Big
Wheel" is composed of a three-ton eight foot diameter cast iron flywheel
that is set in motion by a 1968 Benelli 250cc motorcycle. This program
features a description and activation of this piece, at the press
preview that occurred October 1, 2013 at the New Museum. A full video
tour on "Extreme Measures" will appear at the "James Kalm Report".
