James Kalm first bumped up against
the collaborative work of Bjarne Melgaard and Eckhaus Latta during the
2013 New York Armory Show Art Fair. The installation hooked your
correspondent's attentions like a nasty abscess on an overused body
part. Seeing further examples of Melgaard's production that were
included in the "Chicken of Beef? A Transcontinental Survey of
Figurative Painting" curated by Jesper Elg at the influential Bowery
gallery The Hole, convinced him that Melgaard was an artistic entity to
be aware of. This show is the artist's first outing with Gavin Brown,
and presents a great selection of works installations, collaborations
and directions that will ether disgust or enchant (perhaps both)
viewers.
