Here's a new song I wrote about Fracking in the UK.
Shale Gas is methane (natural gas) trapped in the shale rock deep underground. The gas cannot flow through the shale, so drilling is not enough. The shale rock must be cracked to free the gas. This is called hydraulic fracturing. Fracturing the rock (fracking). What the frack. Oh what the frack is going on?
Fracking is not very good for your health!
Severe health effects in people and animals are beginning to mount in areas where shale gas extraction is widespread.
Because of the much more intense nature of the shale gas extraction process, there are more negative impacts than conventional drilling.
Leaking methane, water contamination, air pollution, radioactive contamination.
Massive industrialisation of the landscape, worsening climate change and earthquakes.
Shale gas extraction also leaks large amounts of methane (a very strong greenhouse gas) and makes available fossil fuels that would not otherwise be burnt, both significantly worsening climate change.
