James Kalm sniffs around the streets
of the city like a caffeinated hound dog, looking for visual culture
wherever he finds it. But the burgeoning community of Bushwick is
growing so fast that he can't keep up. For this program your reporter
coasted into SIGNAL Gallery a recent addition to the neighborhood, and
recorded a brief tour of Bennet Schlesinger's "On the Bleached Sun (A
Turbine)". Schlesinger presents two painted metal sculptures, based on
BusTop designs, and series of small reductive paintings on panel. A
musical introduction is provided by King Kid Love and a Tribe Called
Loaf, who were videoing their song "Shadow the Great" in the heart of
Bushwick.
