James Kalm is still trying to get
back in the swing of the 2014 art season. While on a trip to view Tomma
Abts exhibition at David Zwirner, a publicity fashion shoot near the
location of the defunct "Pop Shot" catches his eye. This is the
gallery's first show of Abts work since 2008. At that time, Abts was
enjoying a flurry of critical and institutional interest that included a
one person show at the New Museum. A contemporaneous reevaluation of
abstract painting cast the artist as a major force of influence, both
for her sophisticated design and also the small scale of the pictures
With this outing, we get to see what the latest developments from this
artist are, which includes a series of accomplished color pencil
drawings.
