Bushwick Open Studios 2017
James Kalm has been recording video tours of Bushwick’s Open Studios event since near its beginnings in 2006. An argument could be made that within the arc or these reports, and within this large group of artists, viewers could follow the trends and shared sensibilities of these succeeding generations of cultural producers. As with any spontaneous presentation of this many artists, all of differing talents, skill levels and backgrounds there will be an incredibly diverse grouping. Because there are visits to dozens of studios, your reporter has done his best to give names and locations, but a couple of views worth noting might be: Davis B. Frye’s “WHAT DID YOU DO WITH THE MONEY? THE MONETIZED NEGRO AND THE POLTERGEIST OF MY FAMILY’S STORY WITHIN AMERICAN HISTORY” at Art During The Occupation Project Space, and Rebecca Litt at the 119 Ingraham building. This program was recorded in Bushwick September 24 and 25, 2017.
