Brent Green at ANDREW EDLIN and Jess at TIBOR de NAGY

James Kalm brings viewers along for a Lower East side double-header featuring a pair of eccentric creators. Brent Green who has gained major institutional attentions for his independent animated film work, also fashions large stringed instruments from scavenged lumber and spare parts. These “Dress Violins” are motorized and played with stationary violin bows. Viewers also get to glance at Brfent’s videos and a couple of his paintings. Then we pedal just around the corner to the historic Tibor de Nagy Gallery and make a walking tour of “Jess: Secret Compartments”. Jess (Burgess Collins, 1923-2004) is unquestionably one of the most unique and influential artists of the California Bay Area. With life time partner, poet Robert Duncan, Jess mingled with the most avant of the avant-garde and witnessed first hand legendary happenings and personalities of both the “Beat Generation” and the “Hippy” revolution. This survey show spans works from the early 1950s to the late 1990s and exposes the breadth of Jess’s approaches and diversity of the forms within which he created. This program was recorded April 8, 2018. A musical introduction is provided by The Meetles. Andrew Edlin Gallery: http://www.edlingallery.com/exhibitio...
