Klam often finds himself entering an impressive exhibition shortly
before scheduled closing time. In such cases, he's desire to capture
video and present the show to his international viewership, prevents him
from spending the time it might take to study the press release and
present a more concise critical response. "New Paintings" by Ilya and
Emilia Kabakov is a selection of four groups of related works. The main
body, of large scale paintings, "The Two Times" pares sections of torn
Soviet propaganda photos with snippets of classic Renaissance
masterpieces, creating a juxtaposed collage of different times and
aesthetics. "Temporary Loss of Eye Sight" is a six painting suite in
which quotidian views are overlaid with a field of grey dots, simulation
the visual experience of macular degeneration. Views of two bodies of
works on paper are included. This program was recorded December 10,
