"LOOK
FOR THE MOMENT WHEN PRIDE BECOMES CONTEMPT" James Kalm is in
Washington DC and makes a stop at the Hirshhorn Museum to bring viewers a
video essay on Barbara Kruger's installation, "Belief + Doubt". Long
considered one of the founding members of the "Pictures Generation",
Kruger has sinse distinguished herself through her selection and
creation of poignant clusters of text, some poetic, others politic.
This enveloping environmental work combines a boldness of language with
an equally dramatic use of Kruger's signature palette of red, white and
black. Viewers are cast into a world not only of sharp contrasts of
color line and letter forms, but of equally intense ideological rifts,
that fracture individual presuppositions. A musical accompaniment is
provided by Groove Merchant. This program was recorded November 28,
2015.
