Paris New York Nexus at STEVEN HARVEY FINE ART PROJECTS

James Kalm slips in for a brief and intimate viewing of Paris/ New York/ Nexus. This presentation focuses on a select group of figurative artists who formed connections both personally and aesthetically between post war Paris and New York. While critical attention, market forces (not to mention political agendas) were concentrated on the newly emergent Abstract Expressionism, and Action Painting, a small group of figurative painters maintained their traditional approach to picture making. With Balthus as the grand inspiration, many of these painters struggles, not only against the fashionable trends, but with their own personal demons, to continue working in a figurative mode.
