The outsider art fair New York 2018

James Kalm rushed into the VIP opening of this year’s (2018) Outsider Art Fair. While there, beyond viewing this crop of new and classic “outsiders” your correspondent got to hang out with Susan Te Kahurangi King. Viewers will hear a discussion of her display with Chris Byrne. Also, another odd discovery as Humbaba Fine Art, introduces the paintings of Robert Kippur, described as an “ornery bus driver with no friends, only acquaintances”, whose psychiatrist suggested he start painting to “relieve his anxiety’. In the three major works presented, Kippur slathers on layers of oil paint so thickly that it becomes sculptural and reaches four or five inches in depth.
