Mark Dagley: Radical Structures at SPENCER BROWSTONE GALLERY

James Kalm braves sub-freezing weather and bikes to the new Spencer Brownstone gallery on the Lower East Side for Mark Dagley’s mini-retrospective, “Radical Structures”. This exhibition presents works that show the arch of the artist’s development over the past forty years. Dagley has had a long held interest in various artistic and non-artistic materials like chicken wire, jute, vinyl acrylic resin, and pine board. Combining these elements with a radically pragmatic attitude towards what a painting is and how they are made, the artist pursues a near scientific approach to developing experimental ideas with a whimsical provocation that forces viewers to rethink their own notions, and peripherally to question what visual art is. This program was recorded December 13, 2017.
