THE 2019 WHITNEY BIENNIAL

James Kalm, at long last, despite technical difficulties, family responsibilities and international travel, is posting this stroll through tour of the 2019 Whitney Biennial. Billed as a “snapshot of contemporary American art”, this year’s iteration co-curated by Rujeko Hockley and Jane Panetta includes seventy-five artists from dispersed regions and tilting towards a representation of younger talent. A concerted effort was made to bring to view works from marginalized groups, and media beyond painting, and sculpture like performance, video, photography and dance. This program was recorded during the press preview on May 13, and subsequent visits on May 19, and 22, 2019. A musical introduction is provided by Chappy Milkshake (Jake Chapman).
