James
Kalm stumbled on the work of Jason Stopa while perusing group shows on
the Lower East Side several years ago. Something about the simplicity
and indeterminate nature of the paintings stuck with your correspondent,
and as time went on, he continued to be impressed with the production
of this artist. "Double Trouble" is an opportunity for viewers to delve
into the questions of painting, language, text, poetry, consumerism and
the various ways these elements are woven together not only as subjects
for painting, but within our contemporary social conditions. A musical
introduction is provided by the Eric Paulin Quintet, and was recorded
in Tompkins Square Park.
