Annex at SHRINE and GDPR at SIGNAL

James Kalm is out on the bike, with a camera, keeping his world-wide viewer ship appraised of what’s going down on the New York art scene. And with the arrival of summer, comes the season for large thematic group shows. “Annex” is designed as a supplement to the “History Refused to Die” exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum, a selection of works from the Souls Grown Deep Foundation’s recent gift. This show features the works of: Ike Morgan, J.B. Murray, Henry Speller, Minnie Evans, Bessie Harvey, Mose Tolliver, Joe Light, Mary T. Smith, Hawkins Bolden and Charlie Lucas. Then it’s over the bridge to Brooklyn’s Bushwick district, and a stroll through “Group Display of Paintings and Renderings (GDPR) at Signal. This group show mingles works of a sharp focus Surrealistic bent, with other modes of figurative “renderings” which tend toward a more “painterly” use of materials. The artists displayed are: Sedrick Chisom, Alex Gardner, Haley Josephs, Kristina Lee, Paul Anthony Smith and Margaux Valengin. This program was recorded June 24, and July 15, 2018. A musical introduction is provided by YUZU
