Judy Chicago Power Play A Prediction at SALON 94

James Kalm plows through snow and sleet to make his way to Salon 94 on the Bowery, and their showing of Judy Chicago’s “PowerPlay: A Prediction”. Best known for her massive collaborative project “The Dinner Party”, Chicago is not only a Godmother of Essential Feminist Art, but for over fifty years a consummate painter. PowerPlay presents a selection of small and large works, mostly from the mid 1980s. The four large works in the main gallery space depict contorted male figures woven within color spirals and bursts. The extended show at the 1 Freeman Alley space offers a selection of cast paper pieces featuring grotesque faces and a lost wax bronze relief. This program was recorded January 10, 2018.
