James Kalm has been watching the development of the “Smoke and Water” project for about four years now. Since becoming acquainted with Lindquist, while writing for the Brooklyn Rail, and due to a shared passion for painting, your correspondent has maintained a relationship with the artist, and discussed various aspects of the current practice here in New York. “Smoke and Water” is an attempt by Lindquist to employ his painterly skills to raise awareness about problems of environmental damage and the unconsidered waste produced by contemporary society. This installation is the latest version of the project, and was installed at Central Booking’s Library on the Lower East Side. The program was recorded May 14, 2017.
